Meaning: the price goes up and up and up, it explodes

Example:

Price boom is usually a good period for people selling products and the bad period for people having to buy things or services.

price controls

Meaning: measures introduced by the authorities in an effort to put a cap or to limit the price increases

Example:

It could be price controls on petrol could be price controls on alcohol, anything where they believe people might be benefiting too much and that the general public are having to pay excessive prices for ordinary items like petrol, oil and gas and other issues like that.

Meaning: a reduction in price

price hike

Meaning: the opposite of price cut, an increase in price

Example:

The company insists that the price hike was necessary to help fund important projects.

Meaning: an effort to reduce prices to try and attract more customers from the other company

Example:

Meaning: a lower price than usual

Example:

This trendy t-shirt is now available at a bargain price of just £5 including postage and packing.

to slash a price

Meaning: to reduce the price of something dramatically. For example, when you reduce the price from $100 to $5.

Example:

The shop slashed prices to £1 on some items to make way for its summer collection.
