So I’m going to give you the list, there are 10 in total. I’ve even got a little nursery rhyme for you. So we’ll go through those and then I’ll go back and give you worked examples as to how you can use them.
Let’s start.
chuffed
Meaning: pleased or happy (informal)
Example:
He is absolutely chuffed with the present you gave him. He really wanted that.

cheerful
Meaning: happy and positive
Example:
A party before Christmas is just what you need to get you ready for the festive season. Everybody was cheerful.
pleased
Meaning: happy (a bit more formal and lacks emotions)
Examples:
Oh, I’m really pleased, you got the job. We were worried that you would be without a job.
We’re so pleased, we got the house sorted in time. All of the decoration was completed last week.

Meaning: extremely happy and excited
Examples:
She was elated at the news that she was going to have a grandchild.
Jane was elated at the news that her family were coming home for Christmas.
glad
Meaning: happy but without showing real happiness or high emotion
Examples:
I’m glad you got the job and really hope it’s working out for you.
I’m glad you got it sorted. Hopefully, you won’t have any more problems.
We can add some emphasis by adding words like
- very
- really
- super
- so
We can say,
I’m very glad, very glad to meet you.
I’m very glad to make your acquaintance.
I’m very glad you enjoyed your stay in our hotel.

delighted
Meaning: very pleased, means a high state of happiness
Examples:
I’m delighted to hear your news. You’re getting married! That’s really good news.
He was delighted to get promoted. He was delighted to share his good news with all of his friends.
joyous /ˈdʒɔɪ.əs/
Meaning: happy, full of joy (quite formal)
Example:
This was a joyous occasion for us; we were delighted that our friends and family were there.
The next three are all about expressions and idioms.

Meaning: really really happy
Example:
Peter was absolutely over the moon when he got his exam results. You should have seen his face.
Here is the particular nursery rhyme, and it goes back many, many, many years even to my childhood.

Example:
