is when somebody just won’t do anything permanently

Examples:

🔸 She’s a lazy girl. Never picks up a book and won’t do her homework.

🔸 He is so lazy that he always misses school and spends most of his day in bed.

🔸 Sam was very lazy and never wanted to work.

How to use Idle

is temporary, at the moment something or someone isn’t doing anything

Examples:

🔸 The machine is idle because it’s broken and has to be fixed. (Once it is fixed, it’ll be working again.)

🔸 The man is idle because the factory has closed due to COVID. (As soon as COVID is over, he’ll be working again.)

Difference between Lazy and Idle

However, there is a similarity when we use the expression bone idle.

Bone idle Meaning

Meaning: that someone is very very lazy or stays idle all the time

Examples:

🔸He’s so bone idle that he’s never earned a penny in his life.

🔸Some people are so bone idle that they can’t get up before lunchtime.
